World Championships-oldtimers
Helsinki

The Tournament was summed in four defining moments first by Peter Cap on two different occasions. After he scored the winning goal against France he leapt into Simon Woody's arms and yelled " I am finally British, and sitting waiting for the bus to go home, he said " I never could believe how much fun a bunch of old guys could be." The third moment was Baz's second effort goal and the excitement that ran through the team, made you feel that this was what oldtimers hockey is all about. The fourth moment is to show you what age and maturity does for oneself when you reach the age of oldtimers hockey. Simon Woody buying oven mitts as a souvenir Click here to read more...

Winter Challenge Cup
Scotland

On Friday we all left for Scotland by different modes of transportation. For the masochists in our group they drove, with trip times ranging from 7 to 13 hours. I believe Mikey R was the first to arrive by playing hooky from work and driving up during off peak time. Graham and crew hit all the traffic Jams. Rob, Rufus and Duane arrived at 3:00AM after a false start retrieving Robs forgotten items (Was it skates Rob) and getting lost in both Edinborough and Kirkcaldy. Click here to read more...

2nd April 2001 The Southern Cup is under way this weekend with Swindon Panthers playing at Invicta Knights on Saturday 7th April. The Tornados campaign begins on Sunday 29th April away at Streatham Chiefs. The other teams competing in the cup are:

Basingstoke Cougars
Chelmsford Nighthawks
Invicta Knights
Solent Scorpions (Gosport)
Streatham Chiefs
Swindon Panthers

The final and 3rd place game will be held at Swindon on Sunday 19th August so keep your diaries free! The Tornados would like to thank the Swindon Panthers for taking over the running of the cup this year.

As far as tournaments and cups go an exciting 2001 is ahead of us. We will be entering the Telford Rec tournament on the first weekend in July (keep it free) and a new cup competition is being held by the ISL in the Autumn which encompasses all senior hockey teams from Rec to Superleague. It is said to be organised similarly to the FA Cup with the top league teams coming in later on in the competition so there are giant killing opportunities. We'll keep you posted!

Last but not least, the Tornados would like to thank Lydia Westcombe for taking over as club secretary from Mike Fay. Mike was no longer able to fulfill the position due to work and family commitments

16th February 2001 Tornados would like to wish a fond farewell to Bas Hollander who has played his last game for the Tornados. Bas is moving to Holland for a new job. We hope you will continue to enjoy your goaltending with your new team, Bas. Come back and see us!
